Our core activity is the reduction of methane emissions from black coal mines, which we achieve through the planning and implementation of underground heading demethanation technologies and the use of the captured methane in the energy production process.

Only during the last 10 years of our operations in carrying out active demethanation of coal mines, we have drilled more than 5 million linear metres of drainage holes in underground workings for demethanation, as well as captured and transferred more than 3 billion cubic metres of pure methane to customers, achieving the required demethanation efficiency indicators and ensuring the continuity of mining operations and the occupational safety of miners.

The founder and owner of the EXME Berger Group is Jerzy Berger, who has a PhD in technical sciences at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, professionally associated with the mining industry since 1977. In addition to directing the operations of the EXME Berger Group, he has been involved in the activity of numerous scientific and industry institutions for many years, and he has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, the Mining Aerology Section of the Mining Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Commission on Methane Hazards and Gas and Rock Blasts in Underground Mining Plants of the State Mining Authority in Katowice, among others.

As an expert on eliminating methane hazards, Jerzy Berger EngD was appointed to committees investigating the causes and circumstances of methane ignitions and explosions in Polish mines, as well as to the Team analysing materials related to the causes and circumstances of the accidents that occurred in the O.F. Zasyadko Mine in the Donetsk Basin, Ukraine.

The history of our Group dates back to the year 1967, which saw the establishment of the ZOK, i.e. the demethanation unit of the Jastrzębie-Zdrój mines. On this foundation, the ZOK Sp. z o.o. company was established as the first private enterprise in Poland which dealt with comprehensive demethanation of black coal mines. For thirty years, ZOK Sp. z o.o. has been one of the pillars of the EXME Group, which now represents the combined potential of five companies:

– ZOK-TECH Sp. z o.o. with its main office in Jastrzębie-Zdrój,
– ZSRG Sp. z o.o. with its main office in Żory,

We are a licensed scientific and research unit designated by the President of the State Mining Authority to perform the tasks of an appraiser involving mining plant operations according to Article 72 of the Geological and Mining Law:

• in group XV—methane hazard,
• in group XVIII—gas and rock blast hazard.         

For the purposes of determining coal’s methane-bearing capacity and sorption properties, it uses the results of tests conducted in its own accredited Testing and Calibration Laboratory.

The many years of experience in the mining industry have allowed us to address the issues related to not just the methane hazard itself, but also the problems surrounding mining operations. By investing the earned capital in qualified personnel, further facilities and the machinery park, not only did we manage to organise a logistics base for our own needs, but also to create a wide range of products and services for our customers. We are able to provide all the elements necessary to build a methane reduction system or its components; we supply drilling companies with the necessary components, tools and accessories; we implement investments in the “design–build” system for the gas industry or the power industry; we provide ongoing maintenance of gas installations as well as control and measurement apparatus and automation; we also repair and modernise industrial machinery and devices. And we are capable of much more. In order to better adapt to the needs of our customers, we have created the Research and Development Department, which is our gateway to discover, design and implement new ideas. The ideas are in turn shaped into technologies and implemented in our business. This makes our solutions always modern and focused on the customer and the environment.

Of course, we could write that we offer the highest quality at the lowest price and in the shortest time, but such things do not exist. That’s why we offer a reliable approach at an adequate price and with a realistic completion date. A situation often requires a lot of compromises, which is why we are flexible and meet the needs of our customers, prioritising quality.
