The Methane Content Test, Analysis and Forecasting Department

The Methane Content Test, Analysis and Forecasting Department is an authorised scientific and research unit, designated by the President of the State Mining Authority to perform the tasks of an appraiser of mining plant operations according to Article 72 of the Geological and Mining Law:

  • in group XV methane hazard,
  • in group XVI fire hazard,
  • in group XVIII gas and rock blast hazard,
  • in group XX climate hazard.

Within the scope of our authorisation, we perform:

  • research in the field of methane hazard, including the performance of tests to determine the methane content of coal seams using the direct method,
  • studies of the state of methane hazard in non-methane fields,
  • research in the field of blast hazard, including the performance of tests to determine the sorption properties of coal,
  • forecasts of the absolute methane content of mine workings and galleries, as well as multiannual prospective forecasts of mine methane content,
  • opinions for the purposes of assigning proper categories of methane hazard and gas and rock blast hazard to a deposit and coal seams or their parts,
  • opinions for assigning specific degrees of methane explosion danger to workings in methane fields.

For the purpose of determining the methane content and sorption properties of coal, we use the results of tests performed at the accredited Test and Calibration Laboratory of ZOK Sp. z o.o.

The Gas Mixing Plant operates under the Methane Content Test, Analysis and Forecasting Department.

We prepare the following gas mixtures for the tests and calibration of sensors:

  • methane with air or nitrogen, in a full range of concentrations (0.1% to 99% CH4),
  • carbon monoxide: (up to 0.1% CO) in the air or nitrogen,
  • carbon dioxide: (0.2% to 99%CO2) in the air or nitrogen,
  • three-component mixtures: methane (0.05% to 80% CH4) with carbon dioxide (0.18% to 80% CO2) and oxygen (6.8% to 20.6% O2) in nitrogen (N2),
  • four-component mixtures: methane (0.05% to 80% CH4) with carbon dioxide (0.18% to 80% CO2), carbon monoxide (< 0.4% CO) and oxygen (6.8% to 20.7%O2) in nitrogen (N2),
  • compressed air,
  • compressed nitrogen (N2),
  • compressed air with a reduced oxygen content (15–20% O2).

The mixtures we prepare can be tested in the accredited Test and Calibration Laboratory of ZOK Sp. z o.o. within the current scope of accreditation.

Such a mixture constitutes a high-quality gas reference material.

We have cylinders with water volumes of 2 L, 5 L and 10 L.
In our activities we use compressors with a capacity of 300 L/min., equipped with a moisture separator. We fill cylinders of various volumes and for any purpose (for diving, paintball, airsoft guns and other applications) within pressure ranges up to 220 bar or 330 bar.

IMPORTANT !! The cylinders submitted for filling must have valid attestation.

We guarantee quick turnaround.

We have a test result for the purity of the air from our compressor, compliant with the standard EN 12021. The purity of our air is checked every 14 days in the laboratory.

Air filling prices:

  1. diving cylinders:
    • PLN 1.22 net per 1 litre of cylinder volume (220 bar cylinders)
    • PLN 2.03 net per 1 litre of cylinder volume (330 bar cylinders)
  2. paintball cylinders:
    • PLN 4.87 net per piece with a cylinder volume up to 2 L.

VAT (23%) should be added to the above prices.

For permanent cooperation, it is possible to establish an individual price list.
